Q: What is the beach like at Sunrise Villa ?

A:
There is a special area of beach which adjoins Sunrise Villa which is about 1000 ft. long by 100 ft. wide. It is composed of beautiful soft pinkish sand. There is also a sandy bottom so you can walk into the water barefoot and go swimming or snorkeling. The beach extends for many miles in both directions from Sunrise Villa which makes for, excellent beach combing. Sunrise Villa has the best of both worlds, a sandy beach and just offshore a coral reef teeming with tropical fish, just like a big aquarium.

Q: Is the beach private ?

A:
There are "no private beaches" in the Bahamas! Anyone who claims to have a private beach is guilty of misleading you. You can walk 8 or more miles on the beach and probably not meet anyone. The better beach areas like the one at Sunrise Villa have other homes in the area. Because no beaches are private in the Bahamas you can go to any beach in Eleuthera to picnic for the day.

Q: Have guests ever found anything interesting on the beach?

A:
You will find plenty of sea shells as you walk along the beach. A recent guest found a "message in a bottle" that had been tossed from a ship 10 years before and the guest was actually still able to contact the sender.

Q: Is there shade on the beach ?

Q: Is the Sea safe for children to swim ?

A:
Sure, my own children were practically raised at Sunrise Villa. They spent hours at a time playing in the water. However children must be supervised when near water.

Q: Which is the most desirable side of the island to be on, The Atlantic or the Caribbean ?

A:
Definitely the Atlantic; That side nearly always has a gentle breeze which means fewer insects. Sunrise Villa is protected by an off-shore reef which allows for excellent snorkeling but still has relaxing gentle waves, that find their way to shore. All the big successful resorts in Eleuthera, have been located on the Atlantic side.
The Caribbean side normally has no coral heads, no breeze, and nothing interesting to see while snorkeling. Although the Caribbean side is considered to have calmer water if there is a wind from that side it can be just as rough as the Atlantic side.

Q: Can you really see the coral reef through the bottom of the clear bottom kayak ?

A:
You sure can, and it's totally amazing ! It's like "going snorkeling without getting wet". Sunrise Villa had the very first (and until just recently the only) "clear bottom kayak" in the Bahamas.

Q: Are the kayaks safe ?

A:
Yes, but everyone in the kayaks should wear a life jacket, especially small children.

Q: Is the water safe to drink or should we buy bottled water ?

A:
The water looks and smells good but bottled water is the only type that's guaranteed safe to drink without being boiled first.
We have a refrigerated water dispense as well as a pump that goes in the top of five gallon jug for filling cooking pots etc. We have three five gallon jugs at the Villa and they can be exchanged at Milliards store for full ones. We find the "southern pur" brand is the best bottled water.

Q: Do you provide bed linens & beach towels ?

A:
We are proud to say that we provide top quality bed linens. Although Sunrise Villa has a good supply of towels, most guests bring their own beach towels.

Q: Do we bring our own masks and snorkel equipment ?

A:
Yes, everyone has a different size foot and must be fitted with a proper size mask. The only way that no one will be disappointed is for each guest to bring their own equipment. Sunrise Villa is on one of the best snorkeling reefs found anywhere.

Q: Is there anywhere we can go scuba diving or rent equipment on Eleuthera ?

Yes, there is a dive shop in Governors Harbour that rents and refills tanks. There is a dive operation on Harbour Island that takes guest diving on shipwrecks etc. You get to Harbour Island by driving to the docks opposite and taking a water taxi across to the island.

Q: What should I use for money, cash, credit cards or travelers cheques ?

A:
U.S. currency is on par with Bahamian in the Bahamas. Some stores take Visa. Travelers cheques will only be accepted at a discount. It is possible to go to a bank in an emergency and get money from your Visa card. I understand there is now an ATM in Governors Harbour but things like ATMs and phone booths are often out of order. Make sure you have a good supply of US or Bahamian cash on hand.
